Privacy policy

Summary

David does not collect, sell or share personal information. By default everything David knows stays in your own browser. The only thing that can ever leave your browser is a vote you cast yourself, and only if you turn on "Share my votes".

What David stores, and where

David saves the following in your browser's local extension storage. Apart from votes you choose to share (see Community votes below), none of it leaves your device:

• Your settings: which features are on, paused sites, custom filters, chatbot sites and YouTube channel lists.
• Counts of what David blocked, by type.
• YouTube channels David learned are AI channels.
• Your votes ("This is AI", "Not AI", "This is an ad", "Not an ad") and a random install ID.
• Cached copies of public filter lists.

Uninstalling David deletes all of it.

Network requests

Once a day David downloads public, community-maintained filter lists from raw.githubusercontent.com. These requests send no information about you or your browsing; they are ordinary downloads of public text files. GitHub may log standard request data (such as IP address) as described in GitHub's own privacy statement.

When "Ads on other websites" is on, David tells your browser to block requests that web pages make to well-known ad networks. That list is built into David; the blocking happens inside your browser and sends nothing to anyone.

David has no analytics, telemetry, tracking, advertising or account system.

Community votes (optional, off by default)

If you turn on Share my votes, each vote you cast is sent to David's community server (a Cloudflare Worker run by Manoi Studios). A vote contains only:

• the platform (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok) and the video's ID;
• for YouTube, the video's channel handle or ID;
• the question and your answer (AI yes/no, or ad yes/no);
• a random install ID created by David, used only so each installation counts once per video;
• David's version number.

Votes are not linked to your name, account, email or other browsing. The server does not store IP addresses. To prevent abuse it keeps a salted, one-way hash of the sending network for at most two days for rate limiting, and stores a separate salted, one-way hash of the network (an IPv4 /24 or IPv6 /64 block, never the full address) with each vote, so one household can't fake many votes. Votes are combined, and a video is published on the community list only after voters on at least three different networks agree by a 75% majority. The published list contains video and channel IDs only.

You can turn sharing off at any time. "Delete my votes" in Settings removes your votes from your browser and withdraws your shared votes from the server.

With Use community votes on, David downloads the community list every 30 minutes. Downloading it sends nothing about you beyond an ordinary web request.

Page content

To hide AI content and ads, David reads the pages you visit inside your browser. That content is processed locally and is never recorded or transmitted.

Search redirects

If enabled, David adds Google's udm=14 parameter to Google searches and sends DuckDuckGo searches to DuckDuckGo's official noai.duckduckgo.com. Your searches go directly to Google or DuckDuckGo as usual; David does not see or store them.

Donations

If you choose to donate, you leave David for a third-party payment site, whose own privacy policy applies. David does not receive any of your payment information.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
